Wedding Shoes
Wedding shoes are an important part of the bridal outfit. Unfortunately, they are often given inadequate attention and the results are often painful feet all day long. Think about how many brides you have seen complain about their feet or wind up dancing around in bare feet at the reception. While this is okay at a beach wedding, it usually means the bride gave no thought to her shoes. Most likely this same bride probably looked at at least 20 different wedding dresses. Don’t be this bride.
First, look at what you want your shoes to do. If you are wearing a floor length dress, most folks won’t notice your shoes. Do you remember what shoes Duchess Catherine wore during her wedding? No one does, but that means the shoes did their job. Catherine looked comfortable, was able to move well and didn’t take any falls or stumbles. You also need to decide if you want your shoes to simply blend in well or stand out. If you want your shoes to blend in, then they should match the color and style of your wedding dress. If you want the shoes to stand out in a good way, decorating with metallic, light glitter or a small gemstone trims with work. Your shoes will look good if they are noticed, but not stick out. This not the time to wear red with your white gown or buy shoes with a big flower on them even if you normally do.
If you are wearing a shorter gown, then your shoes will be noticed so you want them to not blend it but add to your appearance. If you are wearing white, you might want a shoe that blends both white and the other colors of your wedding or flowers. Here you can use shoes that have large decorations and designs. Remember not to become too showy though, or your dress will not be noticed.
You will be standing and walking much during this day along with being somewhat nervous. You are often doing this in a location that you are unfamiliar with as well. To sum up, buy a pair of shoes you can walk in, even if they don’t quite set the dress off as well. This is not the day to try out four-inch spikes if you normally wear running shoes. Look at the brands you feel most comfortable in. Write these down. If you can’t find brands then pay attention to the normal styles of shoes you wear. Then head off to the shoe stores.
At the shoe stores, tell the clerk you are looking for a pair of shoes for a wedding. Tell them you want this style or this brand. If your chosen brand does not do wedding shoes, then ask the clerk what are similar brands. If this is too hard for your store clerk, find another store. Many wedding dresses are made out of silks and satins, so wedding shoes also tend to have outer layers in these materials. If you choose a wedding dress in ivory or silver, you can also use metallic shades in your shoes. Sandals set up with metal and gemstones make great looking shoes. If you can bring a swatch of your gown with your to the store, it is easier to match your shoes.
Consider also your feet appearance. If you want to use open toed shoes, make sure your feet are up to the job. You don’t have to work as hard if just one toe will be seen, but if all the toes are making an appearance, you will want a pedicure. Also remember both churches and reception halls can be cold. While you may have bought great looking comfortable shoes, if your feet are frozen stiff you won’t be very happy on the big day. Also check the areas where you will be walking. Sandals may be great for the dress, but will they be sinking into wet sand that will irritate your feet all day long?
Lastly, consider price. Since you may only wear the shoes once, it is often a temptation to spend as little as possible. However, the shoes from your wedding can be something to treasure that you can bring out for special occasions. This is not going to work with £9.99 shoes. Like your wedding ring, you could wear the shoes again. So, that cheap pair may not be such a good deal. You have worked long and hard to plan your wedding. Don’t forget to include your shoes and feet in that planning as well.
